Ya thats very fine and a good way to stay committed is by allocating specific study times. If you’re on the self study route, set aside specific times for studying. Eventually you’ll get accustomed to it and look forward to the projects.

Nice post.
I too am a non traditional hire. I hired into the IT Auditing/attestation division of a big 4 at ripe old age where many managers were several years younger than me. Many of the seniors and associates were ten years younger.
But I gave it my all and flourished quite well and was moving along until these layoffs hit like a bomb. My local office lost over 50

Thanks for your comment. I actually had to consciously keep myself from writing this with the assumption that everyone affected is 24-25. The firms have been hiring more mature professionals and career-changers. Not many, but some. I wanted to make suggestions that apply to all ages but who have in common being at the beginning of their career.

It's doubly hard when you were a "non-traditional" hire and have all those responsibilities and obligations that the traditional new hire demographic often don't have, and can't just pack up and move. I think the only advantage I have at this point is that I've passed the exam and hopefully will have my license by year's end, and that I have a graduate degree--
